Before "In the Beginning..."

Step inside your time machine (I'm sure you have one handy), set the dial to "before the beginning" and hold on tight! The book of John, chapter 1 takes us back even before time was a thing, before the only reality we've ever known. He shows us that before anything or anyone existed, there was Someone.

John refers to Jesus as the Word. In Greek, the word 'word' is 'logos.' Why does this matter? Well, hold onto your socks, lest they be knocked off. The word 'logos' was used in an attempt to describe what held the universe together in unity so it didn't spiral out of control. So logos represents the fact that there is order behind our unpredictable world. Get it? Jesus is the Word (logos) because He has been (and still is) the order behind our unpredictable world. Even before the world existed, He was there, creating order out of chaos.

John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." It is clear that Jesus is divine, meaning He is like God. What is also clear is that He refuses to remain a distant, uninvolved God. This can be a tough truth to reconcile. In fact, the divine-ness of Jesus is oftentimes why people reject Him. Because of that, we need to have a grasp on this. We need to experience a With-God-Life.

In order to do this, we need to recognize that God is with us all the time. His Spirit is residing within every believer. He never leaves you. Regardless of what you do or where you go, what you say or don't say, God is constantly with You.

SET A REMINDER

Life gets busy, We get distracted. Errands need to be run. Work needs to be done. Kids need to be taken care of. Adulting is not easy. Throughout our hectic, chaotic lives, we can hurry ourselves through the day without giving God a second thought.

We need reminders. Whether you use your phone or computer or watch or sticky notes, create something that will help you remember you are in the presence of God. I set an alarm on my phone to go off every hour. When it goes off, I just pause, take a deep breath, and acknowledge that God is with me. It takes just seconds, and I'm always amazed at the timing. Often, I think, "I don't have time to do that now," which usually means that's exactly when I need to. At the end of the day, I find I'm more aware of doing life with God.

Give it a shot!

Is Your Story Stained?

I haven't had a great year. 2024 isn't going to be remembered as the year with all the fun. Granted, I haven't experienced anything...
